Cellular senescence is often considered harmful. Yet during normal wound healing, some senescent cells appear only temporarily and contribute to tissue repair.
The situation changes with age.
Recent work from Prof. Roh and his team shows that ageing alters both the number and the biological function of senescent fibroblasts in wounds. Cells that support tissue repair in young skin may become less effective and more inflammatory in aged skin.
This raises an important therapeutic question: should senescent cells be eliminated, modified or targeted only at specific stages of healing?

Can Senolytics Rejuvenate Ageing Skin? From Cellular Senescence to Improved Tissue Repair
Prof. Roh will explore the complex role of cellular senescence in skin repair and examine whether senolytic and senomorphic strategies could improve healing in ageing skin.
His contribution will connect fundamental biology with an important clinical objective: helping older skin recover more effectively from injury.
