A promising ingredient is only the beginning. Does it remain stable in a formulation? Does it reach its intended target? And do clinical studies support the benefits claimed for it? For companies developing the next generation of skin longevity products, these questions connect scientific discovery with product efficacy and credibility.
Andrea Heinz, Associate Professor at the LEO Foundation Center for Cutaneous Drug Delivery, Department of Pharmacy, University of Copenhagen, has been invited to bring this critical perspective to Skin Ageing & Challenges 2026, taking place in Málaga on October 28 and 29.
Her recent review in Biochemical Pharmacology examines topical and systemic approaches to skin ageing, highlighting the limitations of clinical studies, formulation and bioavailability challenges, and the gap that can exist between scientific evidence and commercial claims. This perspective invites a closer look at what supports an intervention, beyond the promise of its underlying mechanism.
Under the title “Skin Longevity: Which Ingredients Work and What Can We Really Claim?”, her contribution will explore questions directly relevant to ingredient suppliers, formulators, researchers and product developers. What constitutes convincing evidence of efficacy? How much depends on formulation and delivery? And what evidence is needed before biological activity can support a broader claim about skin longevity?
The discussion will form part of the closing session, “From Evidence to Practice: Can We Really Claim Skin Longevity?” Andrea Heinz’s scientific perspective will be followed by Leah Wei’s clinical perspective, connecting the evaluation of interventions with the decisions clinicians face and the expectations patients bring.
The session will conclude with a debate bringing together academia, industry and clinicians around one central question: What evidence do we need before we can claim “Skin Longevity”? This exchange will connect the meeting’s research on mechanisms, biomarkers and interventions with the practical challenge of defining credible claims. Skin_Ageing_Challenges_2026_Age…
