Dr. Shinobu Nakanishi, Shiseido Co., Japan, will join the Skin Ageing & Challenges 2024 Conference.

Topic: "Olfactory Receptors and Odorant Biding Proteins in the Skin: What do we Know?".

Dr. Nakanishi will provide an overview of the current knowledge on olfactory receptors and odorant binding proteins in the skin. This talk will discuss the implications of these components for skin biology and their potential as targets for novel skincare treatments.

Presentation Highlights

• Olfactory receptors (ORs) are known to be distributed at many tissues and have a wide range of functions.
• The team aimed to comprehensively define the distinct expression patterns of OR genes in different human tissues.
• Distinctively expressed ORs in the skin is related to keratinization.
• They also introduce our resent study that Odorant binding protein (OBP) is one of the defense mechanisms against harmful volatiles and regulates epidermal barrier formation.
