Jean Krutmann

President of Skin Ageing & Challenges, Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine, Germany

It is a great pleasure to welcome Prof. Jean Krutmann, President of Skin Ageing & Challenges, Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine, Germany, at the Skin Ageing & Challenges 2024 Conference.

Prof. Krutmann will kick off the conference with an introductory speech, setting the stage for the discussions on the challenges and advancements in skin aging research. As the President of Skin Ageing & Challenges, he will provide an overview of the conference’s goals and the key topics to be covered.

About Professor Krutmann

Professor Dr. Jean Krutmann is the Group Leader of Molecular Aging Research. His work is centered on investigating the molecular mechanisms responsible for environmentally-induced skin aging and associated skin diseases.

Notable achievements include the discovery of AHR's critical involvement in the UVB stress response, a potential curative approach for the UV-sensitive progeroid Cockayne syndrome, and the identification of traffic-related air pollution as a causal factor for skin aging and pigmentation. Additionally, he has shed light on the role of near infrared rays in skin wrinkle formation and defined the skin aging exposome.

Professor Krutmann's dedication to advancing research is evident through his coordination of structured research consortia, such as RTG 1033, SFB 728, and LRA Healthy Ageing. Currently serving as the speaker of the DFG FOR 5489, he plays a pivotal role in fostering collaborative research efforts. Since 2017, he has held the position of President of Skin Ageing & Challenges, further showcasing his leadership in the field of environmental medicine and molecular aging research.
