Helmut Sies

Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, Germany

It is a great pleasure to welcome Prof. Helmut Sies, Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, Germany, as a keynote speaker of the 15th edition on Skin Ageing & Challenges 2024.

Prof. Sies will open the conference with a presentation entitled: “Oxidative Stress: Eustress and Distress”.

About Professor Helmut Sies

Helmut Sies is the founder of the concept of oxidative stress. He investigated the molecular basis of actions of oxidants and antioxidants.

He authored key papers on oxidative stress, lycopene, and glutathione, widely cited in the scientific community. He also played a crucial role in identifying hydrogen peroxide as an important cellular compound and developing methods to measure its levels.

With extensive education and training in physiology and biochemistry, Prof. Sies has made significant contributions to our understanding of cellular processes. He introduced ebselen as a potential antioxidant and explored the roles of various substances like selenium and flavonoids in maintaining health.

He has published more than 600 articles, 134 of which are cited at least 100 times, and edited 28 books. His work has inspired countless researchers to further explore the connections between oxidative stress and diseases like cancer and heart disease.

Prof. Helmut Sies is a pioneer in Redox Biology, whose research has opened new doors for understanding and treating various health conditions.
