University of Coimbra, Portugal

Prof. Cláudia Cavadas from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, will present her recent study on "Skin Senescence as a Driver of Whole-Body and Brain Ageing and How to Intervene."

As the research group leader of the Neuroendocrinology and Aging Team, Prof. Cavadas focuses on several key research areas such as:

  • Hypothalamic control of aging
  • Neuroendocrine strategies and peptides to delay aging and age-related diseases
  • Nutritional approaches like caloric restriction to combat aging
  • Sleep and biological rhythms in the aging process
  • Organ and tissue crosstalk in aging
  • Senescence, chronic inflammation, and primary cilia in aging and disease

Prof. Cavadas will explore how skin senescence affects not just skin health but also contributes to whole-body and brain aging, with potential intervention strategies.

The skin plays a significant role in systemic aging processes. Targeting skin senescence through pharmacological and lifestyle interventions may offer novel avenues to promote healthy aging and prevent age-related cognitive decline
