Restoring Epidermal Stem Cell Function in Aged Skin Through Fibroblast Phenotype Rejuvenation

Elena Enzo, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Elena Enzo from University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy, who will present “Restoring Epidermal Stem Cell Function in Aged Skin Through Fibroblast Phenotype Rejuvenation”as a speaker at Skin Ageing & Challenges 2026.

Her presentation will address a key challenge in regenerative medicine: the reduced capacity of epidermal stem cells from older donors to form colonies and generate skin grafts. According to the supplied abstract, keratinocytes from donors over 60 contain only 1–5% clonogenic cells, compared with approximately 20% in young donors—a limitation for autologous skin grafting following burns or mechanical trauma.
