Targeting Epigenetic Age to Prevent Skin Cancer

Dr. Manuel Rodríguez-Paredes, German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), Germany will join Skin Ageing & Challenges 2023 to give a presentation titled: “Targeting Epigenetic Age to Prevent Skin Cancer”.
Aging is the main cause of cancer, including all types that affect the skin, so keeping this organ in a youthful state should have a protective effect against the development of this disease. During the last decade, the study of epigenetic clocks generated with the methylation profiles of different tissues has revealed that certain pathologies and some factors related to lifestyle are capable of accelerating or decelerating our biological (epigenetic) age with respect to our chronological age.
On this basis, during his talk, Dr. Rodríguez-Paredes will explain about the functioning of these epigenetic clocks with the goal of making use of them in our endeavor to rejuvenate the skin, and thus prevent cancer development.
About Dr. Manuel Rodríguez-Paredes
Manuel Rodríguez-Paredes (DKFZ, Germany) is a cancer epigeneticist, and during the last eight years, his research has been focused on keratinocyte cancers and skin aging. Applying genome-wide epigenomic analyses and single-cell sequencing technologies, he has been involved in the characterization of the effects of intrinsic aging on the epidermal methylome, the development of the first accurate epigenetic clock for the epidermis and the epigenomic characterization of epidermal tumors.
Dr. Rodríguez-Paredes has also made important contributions to the definition and study of the different subtypes of dermal fibroblasts, their deregulation in aging, and their transformation into cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs).
Join Dr. Rodríguez-Paredes this November to learn more about epigenetics and skin cancer.
