Advancements of Electronic Bandage for Accelerated Skin Wound Healing

Prof. Xudong Wang, from University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA will join the Skin Ageing & Challenges 2021 Congress and will give a presentation entitled “Advancements of Electronic Bandage for Accelerated Skin Wound Healing“.
In this fruitful talk, Prof. Wang will present electrostimulation (ES) that has long been utilized as a versatile therapeutic strategy for treating human diseases. “Our electronic bandage uses nanogenerator to convert biomechanical energy from body motions to ES pulses. This process forms a closed-loop in both energy flow and function feedback. Based on this closed-loop ES concept, the electronic bandage was able to accelerate skin wounds recovery to within 3 days as compared to 12 days of usual contraction-based healing processes in rodents. Through a similar design, the ES pulses could also be applied to effectively stimulate hair growth. The ES was found able to stimulate cell proliferation and alignment, growth factors segregation, and blood vessel development. This closed-loop ES-enabled electronic bandage may show substantial impacts for the treatment of many skin-related diseases.”
